Obituary of Marilyn Colleen Brannan

NEW GLASGOW – Marilyn Collen (Jordan) Brannan, 64, New Glasgow, passed away peacefully, Friday, January 17, 2020 in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow. Born in New Glasgow, she was a daughter of the late James Everett and Zona Imelda (Whalen) Jordan. Prior to ill health, she was employed with High-Crest Place, New Glasgow as Kitchen Supervisor, a job and community, she loved. Marilyn was a faithful member of Second United Baptist Church, New Glasgow where she served as clerk, on the Board of Trustees and Board of Finance, nominating committee, ministerial nominating committee, senior choir and filled in as custodian. She was a member of the Bertha Myers Women’s Missionary Society, Ladies Auxiliary and African United Baptist Association. Marilyn was involved with many local and provincial organizations: Big Brothers Big Sisters, Royal Canadian Legion Branch 34 Ladies Auxiliary, Black Employment Committee, New Glasgow Black Homecoming Committee, Vale Quilters, Ward One Social and Recreation Center, Black Educators Association, Black Education Committee, Council of African Canadian Education and Afrocentric 4-Plus Program. Surviving are daughter, Shannan, New Glasgow; son, Shane, New Glasgow; grandchildren, Tyson, Syntha, Tianna, Jordan and Jaxson; step-daughter, Kim; step-sons, Jeffrey and Kevin; sisters, Twilla “Skip” (Jim) Borden, Beryl Desmond, Debra Jordan, all of New Glasgow; brothers, Charlie (Molly) Jordan, New Glasgow; Curley (Dianna) Jordan, St. Thomas, Ont.; many nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by brother, George Whalen; companion, Garfield Carrigan; father of her children, Frederick Brannan. The family will receive visitors 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday, January 19th in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home Chapel, New Glasgow. Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Monday, January 20th in Second United Baptist Church, New Glasgow with Rev. Dr. Moses Adekola officiating, followed by a repast in the Howard B. Lawrence Hall. Interment will be in Brookside Cemetery at a later date. Marilyn’s family wish to thank all doctors, nurses, prayer groups, friends and family, who have helped so much throughout her illness.
