Obituary of John Leonard Coady

MACPHERSON’S MILLS – John Leonad Coady, 83, MacPherson’s Mills, passed away peacefully, Sunday, January 6, 2019 in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow, surrounded by his loving family. Born in New Glasgow, he was a son of the late John Joseph and Edith May (Stallard) Coady. He in the Royal Canadian Regiment (RCR), 1952 to 1958 finishing with the rank of Sargant. John was a The Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 28, Stellarton. Following service to his country, John was employed as an inspector with the former Trenton Works, Trenton until retirement. He was an ardent Toronto Maples Leafs and Toronto Blue Jays fan. John was a “jack of all trades”, and could often be found “tinkering” around the house with one of his electrical projects. He enjoyed fishing, curling and most of all, spending time with his family. Surviving are his wife of 58 years, Dorothy Marina (Nightingale); daughters, Donna (Fred) Ohrling, Iron Rock; Marina (Robert) Odo, Linacy; Valerie (Fred) Croke, Cook’s Brook; Tanya Crossan (Harry Deagle), Moncton; Shelley (Mike) Ferguson, New Glasgow; son; John (Lori Matheson), Saltsprings; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; sisters, Elsie MacDonald, Island East River; Mary (Johnny) MacDonald, Priestville; Helen (John) Chapman, Trenton; Marcella (Cliffy) MacDonald, MacLellan’s Brook; Coreen Brow, MacLellan’s Brook; Pearl (Raymond) Priest, Trenton; brothers, William, Riverton; Gary (Doreen), Westville; Rankin (Velvet), Priestville; Tommy (Louise), Springville; George (Sheila), Priestville; Ross (Cathy Bezanson), Stellarton; many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by grandson, Robert Odo; sister, Margaret Michaud; brothers, Joseph in infancy and Robert. A private graveside service will be held at a later date, in MacPherson’s Mills Cemetery. Donations may be made in John’s memory to the Aberdeen Health Foundation Palliative Care Unit Endowment, Pictou County VON or MacPhersons Mills Cemetery.
