Obituary of Ada Ethel MacKay

NEW GLASGOW – Ada Ethel MacKay, 94, Valley View Villa, Riverton, formerly of New Glasgow, passed away, Tuesday, February 12, 2019 in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow. Born in Six Mile Brook, she was a daughter of the late Munroe and Edna Ela (MacGillivray) Gunn. Ada graduated form the Maritime Business College and had been employed with a number of Drug Stores and Doctor’s offices throughout her working years. She was a member of Trinity United Church, New Glasgow and affiliated with St. Luke’s United Church, Salt Springs. Ada was a member of Clan Gunn and the 55 Plus Club. She thoroughly enjoyed music and joined a ukulele group in earlier years, later becoming the first female member of the Pictou County Fiddlers. Ada was a member of the former Wisemennets and Singer of Praise Choir and the Fiddling Around group which she helped organize. She also enjoyed playing cards, shopping, reading, oil painting and bowling. Ada had a deep appreciation for her Scottish heritage and an indelible love for her family. Surviving are daughters, Corinne (Carmen) MacDonald, Little Harbour; Judy (Wendell) MacConnell, New Glasgow; son, Jim (Karen) MacKay, Upper Musquodoboit; grandchildren, Jennifer (Jeff) McCloskey, Georgetown, Ont.; Rebecca (John) Smith, Frasers Mountain; Allison MacConnell, New Bedford, Mass.; Erica (Matt) Pitts, Fort McMurray, Alta.; Cory MacKay (Rebecca), Truro; great-grandchildren, Eamonn, Maeve, Fionn, Kaden, Addison, Maddox, Logan, Dylan; numerous nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by husband, Harold MacKay; sisters, Agnes Parker and Dorothy Segar. The family will receive visitors 6-8 p.m. Friday, February 15, 2019 in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home, New Glasgow from where funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, February 16, 2019 in the chapel with Rev. Donna Tourneur officiating. Private interment will be in Stillman Cemetery at a later date. The MacKay family wish to thank the staff of Valley View Villa and Dr. Chris Elliott for providing eight years of loving care. Thank you to the Palliative Care team, Dr. Anne Kwasnsik, Debbie Williams, RN and Rhonda Langille, RN for their 12 years of loving care. Family flowers only.
