Obituary of Kevin Joseph MacGillivray
LISMORE – Kevin Joseph MacGillivray, 59, Lismore, passed away Sunday, October 21, 2012 in St. Martha’s Regional Hospital, Antigonish, surrounded by his family.
Born in New Glasgow, he was a son of the late Wilfred Laurier and Esther Marjorie (Murdock) MacGillivray. Kevin was employed with Arisaig Fisheries 2012 Inc. for the past two years, having previously managed J. & K. Fisheries 2001 Ltd for a number of years. In earlier years, he started and developed J. & K. Fisheries with wife, Joan. He had been a fisherman for many years and had been employed with the Department of Transportation as a snowplow operator for the past 38 years. He also owned and operated K. A. Mac Trucking with his son Kurtis. He was a member of St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, Lismore. Kevin was a 17 year member U.C.T. Pictonian Council No. 879, New Glasgow. He was a passionate NASCAR fan, fervently supporting No. 14, Tony Stewart. Kevin was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, nephew and friend. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. Kevin’s legacy will be found in the example he set; work ethic, strong values and unwavering love of family.
Surviving are his wife of 37 years, Joan Elizabeth (Robertson); son, Kurtis (Pam), Lismore; daughter, Robin (Chad) Baker, Lismore; grandchildren, Josie and Chad Jr.; sisters, Eleanor (Peter) Slevin and Marsha (Alvin) MacDonald, The Ponds; sister-in-law, Mary MacGillivray, Lismore; mother-in-law, Reta Robertson, Broadway; aunts, Anna Mason, The Ponds; Dorothy “Dot” Williams, Barney’s River; many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by brothers, Gordon and Wilfred “Bud”; sister, Mary in infancy.
The family will receive visitors 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 23 in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home Chapel, New Glasgow. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 24 in St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church with Father Colin MacKinnon presiding.
The MacGillivray family wish to express their sincere appreciation to the staff at the QEII, VG site, Oncology Department, Halifax and St. Martha’s Regional Hospital, PCU for the excellent care and support Kevin and they received.
