Obituary of Kenneth Elmer Lowther
TRENTON – Kenneth Elmer Lowther, 76, Trenton, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, on Saturday, December 5, 2009 in the Aberdeen Hospital, Palliative Care Unit, New Glasgow.
Born March 11, 1933 in Maccan, he was a son of the late Eldred Flemming Lowther and Margaret (Brown) (Lowther) Winterburn. Ken attended school in Maccan and River Hebert. He had been employed with MMRA and Canada Electric in Maccan before transferring to Nova Scotia Power, Generating Station, Trenton in 1967. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 34, New Glasgow. After retirement in 1990, he enjoyed his summers on the golf course, beginning at the Pictou Golf course and in later years at Linacy Greens. He was proud of his greatest golf achievement, a hole-in-one, in 2007. In the winters, he enjoyed curling at the Westville Curling Club where he had been member for many years.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Laverna (Hunsley); daughters, Lori (Jim) Cruickshank, Bedford; Shelley (Clifford) Tye, Tammy (Robert) MacPhee, Trenton; he was a proud grampy to Jocelyn Tye (Kevin Caldwell), Stefanie Tye (Brett Wheaton), Halifax; Steven MacPhee, Trenton; Elizabeth and Michael Cruickshank, Bedford; and great-grampy to Charlotte Caldwell and Blake Wheaton; also by sisters, Hazel Fisher, Amherst; Marjorie (Glen) Spicer, New Glasgow; Joyce (Henderson) Allen, Beverley (Lew) Snooks, Halifax; brother-in-law, Morley Greer, River Hebert; sisters-in-law, Leona Lowther, Springhill, Kathleen Lowther, Barrie, Ont.; many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by brothers, Lauren, Robert, Trueman; sisters, Eleanor Greer, Shirley Watters; step-father, Howard Winterburn.
There will be no visitation at Ken’s request. Cremation has taken place. Funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 8th in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home Chapel, New Glasgow with Rev. Debra Orton officiating. Interment will be in Hillside Cemetery.
Family flowers only. Donations may be made in Ken’s memory to VON Pictou County or the Aberdeen Palliative Care Society.
