Obituary of Josephine Catherine Kennedy
NEW GLASGOW - Josephine Catherine "Josie" (McKenna) Kennedy, 64, New Glasgow formerly of Pictou and Toronto passed away peacefully Monday September 19, 2011, surrounded by her family in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow.
Born in Antigonish she was a daughter of the late Hugh Francis and Kathleen (MacDonald) McKenna. Josie loved her children, grandchildren, family and friends. She was especially proud of her children`s accomplishments and delighted in her beautiful grandchildren. She enjoyed spending time with her cat sunny, playing bingo, cards, dancing and having her hands in the baking dough. Times spent at the beach also brought her joy. Josie had a heart of gold always putting others wishes ahead of her own.
Surviving are daughter, Tammy Kennedy (Brett Panelli), Los Angeles, Calif.; sons David Kennedy, Vancouver, B.C.; Ivan (Rose) Kennedy, Vancouver, B.C.; sister, Linda (Frank) Durrah, New Glasgow; grandchildren, Amelia, Lucca, Olivia and Talia; brothers, Hugh (Maxine) McKenna, Summerside, P.E.I.; Frank (JoAnne) McKenna, Mount Forest, Ont.; Bill (Linda) McKenna, Brampton, Ont.; John (Grace) McKenna, Brampton, Ont.; half-sisters, Ramona (Al) Boehk, Barrie, Ont.; Mary (Lorne) Boulter, Oromocto, N.B.; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; friend, Mary Gillis.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by brother, Duncan Joseph McKenna; infant siblings, Kathleen Elizabeth and Angus Norman.
A public graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 21st in St. Barra Parish Cemetery, Christmas Island, Cape Breton with Father Paul Abbass officiating.
Donations may be made in Josie’s memory to the Tearmann Society For Abused Women. Arrangements are entrusted to P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home, New Glasgow.
