Obituary of Donald Frederick MacDonald

NEW GLASGOW – Donald Frederick MacDonald, 69, Trenton, formerly of New Glasgow, passed away Monday, September 1, 2014 at home. Born in New Glasgow, he was the son of the late John S. and Katherine Frances “Kay” (Day) MacDonald. He was a member of St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, New Glasgow. Donald enjoyed a varied career in management, having been employed with CIBC, the former Eastern Provincial Airways, Dorval Airport, Fraser & Hoyt Travel and L.E. Shaw. In earlier years, Donald was very active in Scouting, having served with the Boy Scouts of Canada Pictou County District for over 50 years. He thoroughly enjoyed scouting and accompanied local scouts to many national and international jamborees. Donald enjoyed the outdoors and was happiest white water canoeing, hiking and camping in the forest. Surviving are sisters, Karen Sutherland, Alma; Kathy (Nick) Mills, Egerton; niece, Kathy (Robert) Kenny and their children, Megan, Melanie and Mary, Irish Mountain; cousins, Jeannie (Murray) Johnston, New Glasgow; Bob (Carol) Day, Antigonish; Ann MacDonald, Sydney; Bill (Ruth) Day, Elliott Lake, Ont. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brother-in-law, Jack MacKay; several aunts, uncles and cousins. The family will receive visitors 6-8 p.m. Thursday in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home, New Glasgow. A private graveside service will be held in Thorburn Cemetery with Rev. Dr. J. Kenneth MacLeod officiating.
