Obituary of John Evans MacLeod
CHURCHVILLE – John Evans MacLeod, 93, Churchville, passed away Sunday, August 11, 2019 in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow, surrounded by family.
Born on Pictou Island, on August 12, 1925 he was a son of the late Ernest Phillip and Jennie Belle (MacLean) MacLeod. In earlier years, John was employed in logging and farming. He worked as a pipe fitter during the construction of the Distant Early Warning (DEW) line in the Arctic and Stephenville, Nfld. Prior to retirement, he was a veterinarian’s assistant with Dr. Alan MacKay, New Glasgow for over 40 years. John was a member of Springville Presbyterian Church. He was a gentleman who took great pride in everything he did. John leaves a legacy of love and devotion for his family.
Surviving are his beloved wife of 70 years, Helen (Glover); daughter, Debbie (Peter) Parsons, Lower Sackville; son, Dale (Marie) MacLeod, Green Hill; loving “Poppy” to granddaughters, Rachel MacLeod, Jena (Richard) Parsons, Heather Parsons (Brad Watt); grandson, Jeffery (Erica) MacLeod; great-grandsons, Jonah and Cohen Parsons; daughter-in-law, Andrea MacLeod, New Glasgow; sister-in-law, Olga MacLeod, Dartmouth; numerous nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by son, Gordon D. MacLeod; sister, Lavinia MacLeod; brother, Marshall “Ernie” MacLeod.
The family will receive visitors 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, August 14th in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home, New Glasgow from where funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, August 15th in the chapel with Rev. Dr. Glen Matheson officiating. Interment will be in Springville Cemetery.
