Obituary of Ervin George Palmer
COALBURN – George Ervin Palmer, 83, passed away Saturday, May 9, 2020 at home with his wife by his side.
Born in Lower Caledonia, he was a son of the late George and Verda (MacIntosh) Palmer. In earlier years, Ervin was employed as a bus driver at East Pictou Rural High and following, as a tractor trailer operator with John W. MacKay and Irving Oil. Ervin was a boilermaker with Babcox and Wilcox, working for over 50 years throughout Canada, Indonesia, Thailand, Saudi Arabia and Israel. He was a member of the International Brotherhood of Boilermakers Local 73. Ervin enjoyed working on vehicles and operated his own “hobby garage”. He enjoyed stockcar racing, four-wheeling, snowmobiling, fishing and hunting. Ervin enjoyed going to the camp in Caledonia where he spent many enjoyable hours with family and friends. He was a hard working, generous man, who will be remembered for his kindness and willingness to give a helping hand.
Surviving are his wife of 21 years, Susan (Munro); daughters, Darlene (Chris) Martin, MacPherson’s Mills; Sandra (Todd) Pettipas, Moncton, N.B.; Shellie (Jeff) Strickland, Westville; Frankie MacPhail, Trenton; sons, Geordie (Ardyth), Thorburn; Lloyd, Coldbrook; Robert (Heather), Westville; Greg (Pat), Campbell River B.C.; daughter-in-law, Shannon Palmer, Sechelt, B.C.; former wife, Lillian Moser, Plymouth; grandchildren, Erin, Jan, Elana, Justine, Mallory, Chris, Nicole, Brody, Alex, Carter, Matthew, Ethan, Shawn, Devin, Kylie, Kellen, Brian, Abbi and Ben; many great-grandchildren; sisters, Maria Faye Runningbrook, Halifax; Brenda (Peter) Gough, Lunenburg; brother, Wes (Sandra) Palmer, Kamloops, B.C.; many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his first wife, Agnes (Campbell); son, Kevin; daughter, Lilly; sister, Shirley; brothers, Bill and Robert.
