Obituary of Kaye Duggins

LOWER BARNEY’S RIVER – Margaret Kathleen “Kaye” Duggins, 69, Valley View Villa, Riverton, formerly of Lower Barney’s River, passed away peacefully, Tuesday, October 2, 2019 in the Villa, surrounded by her family. Born in New Glasgow, she was a daughter of the late James Alfred and Agnes (Moore) Macumber. She was a member of St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church, Merigomish. When her children were young, Kaye was employed with the fish factory in Lismore and then with G. C. Foote, Linacy. Prior to retirement, she was employed with her daughter-in-law, Leah at the former Horse Emporium. Kaye enjoyed visiting her friends and a good cup of tea, and greatly enjoyed her frequent road trips with her childhood friends, Shirley and Noreen. Gardening, baking and spending time with her family was most cherished. She especially enjoyed passing on her baking skills to her granddaughter, Brooke. When her health declined, she enjoyed her time at Valley View Villa, greatly enjoying the singsongs and dances with her new friends. Kaye was a devoted home maker, loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. Surviving are her son, Stephen (Leah Morrison), Lower Barney’s River; granddaughter, Brooke Duggins, New Glasgow; sisters, Mary Simpson, Lower Barney’s River; Pam Bailey, Truro; Ruby Tymo, Alberta; brothers, Alfred Macumber, Toronto, Ont.; John (Laura) Macumber, Mt. William; brother-in-law, Pat Evans, Calgary, Alta; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, William Nelson Duggins; son, David Sheldon Duggins; sisters, Nellie Evans, Annabell Robertson, Florence Butler and Margaret Smith; brothers, Ira and Murdock Macumber; brother-in-law, Harlan Simpson. The family will receive visitors 3 – 4 p.m., Sunday, October 6th in St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church, Merigomish from where funeral service will be held at 4 p.m. with Rev. Pat Rose officiating. Interment will be in Murray’s Point Cemetery, Lower Barney’s River. Donations may be made in Kaye’s memory to St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church or Pictou County Victorian Order of Nurses Adult Day Program. Stephen and Leah wish to thank the Valley View Villa staff for the wonderful care Kaye received.
