Obituary of John Reid Milne
WOODBURN – John Reid Milne, 87, Woodburn, passed away Thursday, January 3, 2013 at home.
Born in New Glasgow, he was the son of the late George and Jeannette (Reid) Milne. Retiring in 1990, he had been employed at Michelin Tire as a Brick Mason. John was a member of the former St. Andrew’s Roman Catholic Church, Egerton and recently a member of St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, New Glasgow. During the Second World War he served with the Royal Canadian Air Force. John rejoined the Air Force in 1952; retiring in 1967, he purchased the family farm in Woodburn, where he was proud of the home he created for his family. He was “Grampy” to family and friends, quick to share a “hug” and smile. He was an authentic gentleman. John was a much loved uncle to his numerous nephews and nieces in Prince Edward Island, Nova Scotia and Alberta.
Surviving are his wife Helen Theresa (Kelly) Milne; sons, Eric (Henrica), England; Barry (Tanya), Halifax; daughter-in-law, Margaret Milne, Woodburn; sister, Marguerite Olson, Alberta.; grandchildren, Rachael (Ben), Saskia (Sam), Andrew, Melissa, Matthew (Leona), Luke and Ella; great-grandson, Emmett; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and his faithful dog, Tamara.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his son, Jamie; sister, Mary Turnbull.
The family will receive visitors 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 9th in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home, New Glasgow. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 10th in St. John the Baptist Roman Church with Father Donald Boudreau presiding. Interment will be in Woodburn Cemetery.
