Obituary of Alexander Skoke

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the death of our husband and father Alexander Skoke, 91, of Stellarton on Wednesday, February 9, 2022 at home. Born in Bunker Hill, Stellarton on April 25, 1930, Alex was the only son of the late Alexander and Veronica (Puscar) Skoke. He was the first Canadian born child in his family that emigrated from Yugoslavia. Dad was a self-educated man. Borrowing books from St. FX library through the mail. His formal education and love of playing hockey and baseball was ended at 16 years of age when Dad spent six months in hospital, critically ill with a kidney disease. Dad worked for a time at Trenton Car Works, Stewart Proudfoot Insurance, Secretary Treasurer for the Municipal School Board, Pictou and Custodian manager for Chignecto Regional Schools, where he retired from in 1995. Together with his wife Betty, they owned and operated several business including Skoke`s Insurance, and Skoke`s Convenience Store, Stellarton. Family life was Dad`s priority and his legacy. A loving and devoted husband, he will be dearly missed by his wife of 69 years, Betty (Martin) Skoke. Dad was faithfully Mom`s primary care giver for the past twelve years. He was a loving father to eight children, and will be dearly missed by sons: Pacelli Skoke, Alex Skoke, Stellarton; daughters: Margaret Martin, Roseanne Skoke, Veronica (Chris) MacFarlane, all of Stellarton, Violet (Robert) Little, Westville, Elizabeth (Bill) Coleman, St. John`s Nfld; former daughter-in-law Patty Skoke, son-in-law Paul Fortin, numerous nieces and nephews and their families. Affectionately known as Tata to 32 grandchildren: Johnna (Ross) MacKenzie, Alexka (Kevin) Mason, Marla (Trevor) Fitt, Joseph (Tammy) Martin, Monica (Tom) McArthur, Therese (Steven) Dee; Betty (Damien) Skoke Burns, Lina (Adam) Skoke Woods, Chrisgina (Kevin) Avery, Violet MacFarlane; Allek Skoke (Jalisa), Rachelle (David) MacDonald, Jacinta (Steve) MacKay, Jenny (Nathan) Glen, Pacelli Skoke (Chelsea), Paul (Katelynn) Skoke, Anna Skoke (Mario), Grace Skoke (Dustin), Andrew Skoke; Anthony (Andrea) Skoke, Mary Skoke, Dorothy Skoke, Alexander Skoke, Michael Skoke (Madeline), Elizabeth (Kevin) MacIntosh, Robert (Mandy) Little, Kolbe (Megan) Little, Gerard Little, Bernadette Little; Lorraine Coleman, Francis Coleman; Proud Great-grandfather of 70: Isabelle, Abigail, Dominic, Nicholas, Annika (Jarad), Kevin, Jaden, Joseph, Lucia, Alyssa, Olivia, Ella, Noah, Hayley, John-Kay, Ada, Martin, Xavier, Ana, Isaac, Gretta, Katia, Emma, Jacob, Oliver, Angellina, Ave, Stella, Maya, Micah, Jonah, Karleigh, Sienna, Christopher, Luke, Kennedy, Joseph, Nikolai, Dominik, Norah, Scarlett, Iris, Rosie, Luella, Ruby, Bing, Evangeline, Chloe, Liam, Evelyn, Aubrey, Seth, Jack, Sonia, Julien, Gwennie, Sophie, Grace, Gabriel, Cohen, Isla, Ellie, Elijah, Violet, Maren, Kaiden, Cal, Jillian, Matthew, Halo, Luca; and God-son, Fr. Allan Fogarty. In addition to his parents, Alex was predeceased by his daughter, Kathryn Fortin; granddaughter, Kateri Skoke; sisters, Anna MacLeod, Kay Vienneau, Doris Langley, Rose Mayich; son-in-law, John Kay Martin; and brother-in-law, Bert Martin. We are grateful for the support of the V.O.N. and the Palliative Home Care Team. In keeping with Alex`s wishes, in your charity, please pray for his soul. Due to Covid restrictions there will be no visitation. Funeral arrangements are under the care of P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home. A private funeral Mass will be held on Friday, February 11, 2022 at Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic Church, Stellarton with Father Peter MacDonald officiating.
