Obituary of George William Mailman
NEW GLASGOW – George William “Bill’ Mailman, 72, New Glasgow, passed away peacefully, with his wife by his side, on Saturday, September 20, 2008.
Born in Molega Mines, Lunenburg County, he was a son of the late Archie and Gertrude (Joudrey) Faulkenham. He served for seven years with the Canadian Armed Forces, serving two years with the UNEF in Korea and Egypt. He was employed for 20 years with Michelin Tire, Granton, retiring in 1991. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 16, Pictou and the Michelin Retirees Club. He enjoyed salmon fishing and gardening. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle.
Surviving are his wife of 52 years, Helen (Smith); daughters, Darlene (George) Dewtie, Sutherland’s River; Patty (Bob) Henderson, New Glasgow; Judy (Raymond ), Lyons Brook; sons, Donald (Sherry), Montague, PEI; John (Kori Lynn), New Glasgow; grandchildren, Michael, Jeff (Amy), Matthew (Amanda), Emily, Corey, Ashley and Brooke; sisters, Jean Belmore, New Brunswick; brother, Leonard Thorburne, Saint John, New Brunswick; many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by sister, Muriel Robar.
At Bill’s request cremation has taken place. A public graveside service will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday in Abercrombie Cemetery with Rev. Dr. Glen Matheson officiating.
No flowers by request due to family allergies. Donations may be made in his memory to the Lung Association of Nova Scotia.
