Obituary of Mildred Patton Cameron

THE PONDS – Mildred Patton “Mid” Cameron, 89, The Ponds, passed away Monday, November 19, 2012 in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Boston, Mass., she was a daughter of the late George Lawrence and Marjorie Bradley (Smith) Arbuckle. After completing business college in her late teens, she began working for the CNR. She married her husband, Harris, raising three boys while working for the former Clairtone. When her sons finished high school, she began working as a fisherman’s helper, fishing lobster and scallops with her husband. Prior to retirement, she was employed with the Lismore Fish Factory. Mildred enjoyed quilting, knitting, playing crib and attending card parties with her friends. In her eighties, she was one of the oldest members of Curves. A woman of deep faith, she was a devoted member and supporter of St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church, Merigomish. Mildred was the family matriarch, who deeply loved and was dearly loved by her family. A lady of immeasurable qualities, she has left behind a rich heritage for her family. Surviving are her sons, Rick (Faye), Stellarton; Dana (Carolyn), Westville; Terry (Marion), The Hague; grandchildren, Angela, Chris, Jennifer, Jeff and Kelly; great-grandchildren, Olivia, Cameron, Matthew, Sophie, Julian, Alexa and Emery; sisters, Joyce Robertson, Mississauga, Ont.; Betty (Bunny) Cameron, Merigomish; Phyllis (Stewart) Murdock, The Ponds; Beverly (Ewart) Kingsbury, Markham, Ont.; numerous nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Roderick Harris Cameron; sisters, Marion and Gloria; brother, Robert. The family will receive visitors 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 22 in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home, New Glasgow. Funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 23 in St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church with Rev. Andrew MacDonald officiating. Interment will be in Murray’s Point Cemetery, Lower Barney’s River.
