Obituary of Beatrice Marion Smith
MERIGOMISH/HALIFAX- Beatrice Marion Smith, 92, Halifax formerly of Merigomish, passed peacefully away Thursday evening, March 26, 2015 in Northwood Centre, Halifax.
Born in Merigomish on March 20, 1923, she was a daughter of the late Christena (Cameron) and Stanley Smith of Merigomish. She was predeceased by sisters Estella (Aubrey) Chapman, Margaret (James) Pyche and Elizabeth (Keith) Fraser. Beatrice celebrated her 92nd birthday last week with friends and family in her usual style of keeping everyone laughing. A lifelong resident of Merigomish, she spent her last two years on the fifth floor of Northwood Centre in Halifax where she made fast friends with residents and staff. Bea's positive sense of fun could lighten almost any moment. With her quick wit, you never knew what she would say, but there was a good chance she would have you laughing with her. Bea loved rowing, sailing, swimming and going to the shore. She loved "being on the water". She also loved to be with people and embraced her family and neighbors who also became her family. Very wise with a great sense of diplomacy, Bea's advice was often sought especially as it was gently given.
Bea leaves behind so many friends and family that will miss her including nephew Stanley (Gert) Chapman; nieces Elizabeth Pyche; Peggy (Jim) Harris; Mary Pyche and cousin Joy Dunn. Grandnephew, Dave (Marilyn) MacGregor; Bea (Dan) MacGregor and Kara (Greg) MacGregor. She was especially close with great- grand nieces, Chelsea, Danielle and Christina.
The Family will receive visitors 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Sunday March 29 in P. & K. MacDonald funeral home, New Glasgow. Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Monday March 30 in St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church, Merigomish, with Rev. Bonnie Wynn, presiding. Reception to follow in church hall. Interment will be in St. Paul’s Cemetery at a later date.
Flowers are welcome. Donations may be made in Bea’s memory to St. Paul's Cemetery Fund.
Tremendous thanks to the staff at Northwood for their kindness, support and for making Bea part of their family.
