Obituary of Marjorie Jean Murdock

LOWER BARNEY’S RIVER – Marjorie Jean Murdock, 94, Valley View Villa, Riverton, formerly of Lower Barney’s River, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 6, 2011 at the Villa. Born in Pictou on October 2, 1916, she was a daughter of the late George “Whitey” and Clara (MacKeigan) Mason. Marjorie resided in Lower Barney’s River for 84 years before moving to Haven Brook Manor, Riverton in 2009. She was a member of St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church, Merigomish where she had served on the Board of Managers, as a member of the choir, the Ladies guild and as a life member of the AMS. She was a 68 year member of Golden Link Rebekah Lodge No. 2, New Glasgow. She was an immaculate housekeeper and accomplished gardener, who received many compliments each year for her beautiful flower gardens she created since she and her late husband, Dick built their home in 1935. Marjorie was well known for her Garage Sales, making preserves and her yearly “opening up for the season”. Her family will always remember her delicious homemade apple pies and biscuits, and most of all, the fun times at her home, the laughs and the love shared. Surviving are sons, Richard (Ann Janette), Stellarton; Douglas (Monique), Saulnierville, Digby, Co; grandchildren, Jan (John) James, Stellarton; James (Tonia) Murdock, Kingston,NS; Anne - Marie Murdock, New Glasgow and Mathew (Pam) Murdock, Oakville,ON; great-grandchildren, Alisha and Eric James, Emillie, Alex, Carter and Benjamin Murdock; brother, Aubrey (Nellie) Mason, Merigomish; sisters-in-law, Sylvia Mason, Clara Mason, Anna Mason, Dorothy Williams and Mary Murdock; many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, George Harold “Dick” Murdock; an infant son; sister, Helen Morin; brothers, John and Edgar Mason. The family will receive visitors 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday, Sept. 9th in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home, New Glasgow. Funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept.10th in St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church, Merigomish with Rev. Dr. J. Kenneth MacLeod officiating. Interment will be in Murray’s Point Cemetery.
