Obituary of James Michael Asprey
BIG ISLAND-James Michael “Jim” Asprey, 68, Big Island, passed away peacefully Monday, March 29, 2015 in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow, surrounded by his family.
Born in Halifax, he was a son of the late Thomas and Helen (Gerrior) Asprey. He was an electrician with Trenton Works for most of his working life. He was known as Mr. Fix it. Jim’s greatest love in his life was his family.
Surviving are his wife of 50 years, Isabel (Phalen); son, James (Darlene), Saint Albert, Alta; daughters, Colleen (Tom) Hawley, Egerton; Connie Coady (Richard Arbuckle), Edmonton, Alta; grandchildren, Samantha and Sarah Scott; Lauren and Jake Coady; Christopher, Brandon and Mason Hawley; Jason Asprey; Carl and Alex Hines; great- grandchildren, Ruth and Amelia Brown; Carson Mattinson; Dawson Coady; brothers, John (Jock); Ronald, Sheet Harbour; Donald (Dianne), Margate, PEI; sisters, Margaret (Donald) Kennedy, Dartmouth; Helen (Michael) Slaunwhite; Marjorie (Bill) Newcombe; Edith (Erwin) Foster; Mildred Phalen, London, Ont; several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers, Thomas; Fred; William George; Joseph; Edward; Henry; Hugh; William (in infancy) ;sisters, JoHanna Boucher; Laura Cremens; Anne Findlay; Theresa Asprey (in infancy) and Cecelia Asprey (In Infancy).
The family will receive visitors 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Thursday April 2, in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home, New Glasgow. Funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Friday April 3 in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Peter MacDonald, presiding. Interment will be at a later date in Murray’s Point Cemetery.
Jim has requested in lieu of flowers, donations be made in his memory to the Aberdeen Palliative Care Society or the IWK Health Centre Charitable Foundation. (click on link to donate online)
