Obituary of John Walker MacAloney
NEW GLASGOW – John Walker “Jack” MacAloney, 83, New Glasgow, passed away Thursday, July 21, 2011 in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow.
Born in South Hampton, he was a son of the late Daniel and Frances (Hanna) MacAloney. He was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic Church, Stellarton. He had been employed as a driver with Acadian Lines for 14 years. Prior to retirement in the nineties, he had been employed as a Motor Carrier Freight Inspector with the Nova Scotia Department of Transportation. Jack enjoyed life, living each day to the fullest. He had a “heart of gold”, and willingly, without recognition, helped many. Jack loved his niece and nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews as if they were his own children and grandchildren. He was a special “papa” to his sister-in-law, Diane. He and his wife Mary were inseparable. After 45 years of a shared life, they were separated on Easter Monday after he suffered a fall. The bond of love that was shared will remain, for life may change but it does not end.
Surviving are his wife, Mary; sister, Mabel Smith, Springhill Junction; sister-in-law, Diane McPherson, Stellarton; brother-in-law, John “Duggie” (Sharon) McPherson Sr., Stellarton; niece, Jane (Peter) MacDonald, and son, Chris; nephews, Richard (Brenda) McPherson and children, Noah and Claire; Michael (Jocelyn) McPherson and children, Leah and Robert; Brian McPherson; John “Duggie” (Kelly) McPherson Jr. and children, Jack, Jennifer and Ches; Merlyn Smith; David (Eunice) Smith and Terry Smith.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his foster parents, Mr. and Mrs. Huestis; two sisters, a brother and a brother-in-law.
The family will receive visitors 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday, July 24th in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home, New Glasgow. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 2 p.m. Monday July 25th in Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic Church with Father Peter MacDonald presiding. Interment will be in Our Lady of Lourdes Cemetery.
Donations may be made in Jack’s memory to Our Lady of Lourdes Cemetery Fund, 112 North Foord Street, New Glasgow, NS B2H 5G7.
