Obituary of Bessie Mae Cooke
HALIFAX/NEW GLASGOW – Bessie Mae Cooke, 72, Halifax, formerly of New Glasgow, passed away Saturday, October 9, 2010 in Northwood Centre, Halifax.
Born in New Glasgow, she was the daughter of the late Cecil and Amelia Jane (Paris) Lee. She was a member of Second United Baptist Church, New Glasgow, where she had served as president of the Ladies Auxiliary and Women’s Missionary Society, and as a member of the Senior Choir. She was an Auxiliary Member of The Royal Canadian Legion Br. 34, New Glasgow. She greatly enjoyed playing bingo.
Surviving are her daughter, Roxanne (Thomas) Green, Halifax; Charlene (Bob) Smith, New Glasgow; sons, Lowell (Maryann), Westville; Brian (Maina), Halifax; brother, Archie Lee, Halifax; 11 grandchildren; a great-grandchild; many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her son, Ian Robert “Pete” and a child in infancy; sisters, Dorothy and Mildred; brothers, Albert, Clarence, William, Robert and a brother in infancy.
The family will receive visitors 2-4 and 7-9 pm Wednesday, Oct. 13 in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home, New Glasgow. Funeral service will be held 2:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 14 in Second United Baptist Church with Rev. Rhonda Britton officiating. Interment will be in Lorne Street Cemetery at a later date.
