Obituary of Norma Esther MacDonald
NEW GLASGOW – Norma Esther MacDonald, 81, Glen Haven Manor, New Glasgow, passed away peacefully, Sunday, November 21, 2021 in the home, surrounded by her family.
Born in New Glasgow, she was a daughter of the late John and Laurie (Arbuckle) Simpkin. Norma enjoyed a variety of careers throughout her life, having worked many years in Ontario and locally at Michelin Tire, Lismore Sea Foods and Bagnels Laundromat. Norma enjoyed working on her puzzle books, watching her favourite soap opera, having coffee at McDonald’s and Tim’s with her friends and travelling throughout Atlantic Canada. Norma is lovingly described by her family as a “sweetheart” who treasured the confidences entrusted to her.
Surviving are her children, Scott (Mary), Pictou; Joey, Oshawa, Ont.; Bobby (Pat), Oshawa; Randy, Whitby, Ont.; Lori-Ann (Ray), Edmonton, Alta.; Lois, New Glasgow; grandchildren, Haley, Hillary, Kaitlyn, Megan, Marcus, Nicole, Melissa, Adam, Colin, Hendrikus and Hannah; great-grandchildren, Abby, Alex, Rylee and Oliver; sisters, Carol Doucette, New Glasgow; Sandra Munroe, Merigomish; Kendra Gray, New Glasgow; brother, Larry Simpkin, Lower Barney’s River; many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by daughter, Betty in infancy; son, John in infancy; sister, Peggy Legg; brother, David Nickerson; former husband, Jackie.
The family will receive visitors 10-10:45 a.m. Friday, November 26, 2021, in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home Chapel, New Glasgow from where funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. with Rev. Dr. Glen Matheson officiating. Interment will be in Murray’s Point Cemetery, Lower Barney’s River.
