Obituary of William Earl Dunbar

ABERCROMBIE - William Earl “Bill” Dunbar, 90, Abercrombie, passed away Monday, November 19, 2012 in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow, surrounded by his family. Born in Abercrombie, he was a son of the late Frank Robert and Irene Marguerite (Crawford) Dunbar. Bill served with the Canadian Infantry throughout the Second World War. Enlisting at the age of 17, he served throughout the European theatre for five years, returning home at the age of 22. Upon return, he became a meat cutter at the former Shrader’s Meat Market, was a truck driver for Farmer’s Dairy and prior to retirement in 1987 was a machinist at Trenton Works. Bill enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a very social person with the ability to easily make friends. He lived to spend time with his family and friends. Surviving are his wife of 62 years, Lulu Mae “Lou” (Munn); son, William Hugh (Valerie) Dunbar, Westville; numerous nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by brother, Francis Karl “Sam” Dunbar; sisters, Elizabeth B. “Toot” MacDonald and Marguerite H. “Peg” Rundle. A private funeral service was held Wednesday in First Presbyterian Church, New Glasgow with Rev. Dr. Glen Matheson officiating. Interment was in Abercrombie Cemetery. Donations may be made in Bill’s memory to the Canadian Cancer Society (Prostate Cancer Research) or Aberdeen Palliative Care Society.
