Obituary of Gerald Rolland MacGillivray

LINACY – Gerald Rolland “Gerry” MacGillivray, 58, Linacy, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, September 1, 2021, with his family by his side. Born in New Glasgow, he was a son of Ivan and Eileen MacGillivray, New Glasgow. Gerry attended Linacy School and East Pictou Rural High School. In 1992, he was employed with Westray Mine and was awarded The Medal of Bravery for his part in the rescue effort following the explosion. Gerry was a dedicated employee of C.F. Construction for over 25 years. He enjoyed his job and would work seven days a week when necessary. His employer, Craig, ensured he had the first choice of each new truck the company purchased. Gerry looked forward to going to work each day, even when his health was failing, fought as long as possible to stay on the job. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and fast cars. Above all, Gerry enjoyed spending time with his family and cats, Kitty Cat and Fluffy. He was a loving son, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend, who will be dearly missed by all those he loved. Besides his parents, surviving are his children, Crystal MacGillivray and her children, Kylee and Hayden, New Glasgow; Bobbi-Sue MacGillivray (Daniel) and her children, Halie, Jordan, Brooklyn, Linacy; Devin MacGillivray (Candace) and their children, Nicholas, Ella, Benjamin and Cooper Antigonish; Mitchell MacGillivray, Stellarton; brothers, Ricky (Susan) MacGillivray and their children, Candice (Logan) and Shay (Michaella), Merigomish; Gregg MacGillivray (Michelle) and their children, Darren, Makyia, Aaleyah and Lochlin, Albany, P.E.I.; aunts, Lois (Gerry) Linder, Victoria, B.C.; Barbara Stanislaw, New Glasgow; Trish (Bob) Morton, New Glasgow; Dorothy Harb, New Glasgow; Colleen (Dan) MacCormack, Stoney Creek, Ont.; Donna (Paul) Holmes, Cornwall, P.E.I.; Jean MacGillivray, New Glasgow; Jane Knickle, New Glasgow; uncles, Robert Fraser, Westville; Greg (Cathy) MacGillivray, Trenton; many cousins. A private service will be held in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Dr. Glen Matheson officiating. Gerry’s family wish to thank Craig Fraser, Jeremy “J Rock” Gladney, Sherry Landry, Dr. Cathy Felderhof, Palliative Care Nurses and Pictou County Victorian Order of Nurses for their kindness and support.
