Obituary of Howard George Green

SYLVESTER - Howard George Green, 78, Sylvester and formerly of New Glasgow, passed away Wednesday, August 14, 2013 at home, surrounded by his loving family. It is with sadness and joy that his family release him into the arms of his Lord and Saviour, who he had loved and faithfully served for many years. Born on September 5, 1934, in Middleton, Antigonish Co., he was a son of Carlton and Maude (Marshall) Green. In younger years, seeking to serve his Lord, Howard became a lay preacher. He ministered throughout the province and P.E.I., preaching and singing along with his girls in many churches. Howard was instrumental in the reopening of the Little Gospel Mission, Goshen. For over 25 years, he hosted “The Gospel Truth” program on the local cable channel. Howard retired from the former Trenton Works after 44 years of service. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle and friend. Surviving are his wife of 58 years, Sylvia (Clyburn);daughters, Charmaine (Tony) Van den Eynden, Sundridge; Kathy (Bob) Reid, Merigomish; Sandra (Colin) O’Brien, Westville; Sharon (Joe) Stewart, Westville; sons, H. Richard “Rick”(Sheila), Westville; Kevin (Sara), Springville; brother, Donald, Sunny Brae; 17 grandchildren, eight great- grandchildren; several sisters-in-law; many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by son, Howard Gordon in infancy; sisters, Dorothy Smith and Jessie Murray; brother, William; father and mother-in-law, Rex and Corelda Clyburn; several sisters and brothers-in-law; nieces and nephews. The family will receive visitors 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday August 16 in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home, New Glasgow from where funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday August 17 in the chapel with Pastor Ryan King officiating. Interment will follow in Heatherdale Memorial Gardens. Donations may be made in Howard’s memory to the Aberdeen Health Foundation Palliative Care Unit Endowment, Pictou County VON, Canadian Red Cross. Howard’s family wish to thank the Aberdeen Hospital Palliative Care Unit staff, Pictou County VON Home Care Staff, Dr. Gerry Farrell, Dr. Aaron Smith, Dr. Jacob Johns, Linda O’Brien; SHMH Restorative Care Unit Staff for the wonderful care and support provided to Howard and his family. They would like to extend an extra special thank you to neighbours Earl and Shirley Crosby for always being there. “Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints.” Ps. 116:15 (KJV)
