Obituary of William Hoare
William “Bumper” Hoare, 71, New Glasgow, passed away, Tuesday, February 24, 2009 at home, surrounded by his family.
Born in New Glasgow, he was a son of the late William and Mabel (Fogarty) Hoare. He was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic Church, Stellarton. Bumper was employed with the former Henry R. Thompson, W. A. O’Farrell’s, New Glasgow, Michelin Tire, Granton for 20 years, retiring in 1993. He owned and operated Diamond Jim’s (1995-2006) and Bumper’s Taxi in Westville. Bumper was a kind individual, well known for his generosity in sponsoring many individuals and events, especially the Pictou County Christmas Fund. Bumper was a friend to all.
Surviving are his wife, Mabel (Gratto); daughter, Donna (Hoyt) Olsen, Fort Wayne, Indiana, USA; sons, Stephen (Gina), Westville; David (Tara), Sherbrook; sisters, Marie, Joyce, New Glasgow; brothers, Bernie (Marion), Stellarton; Dougie (Dorothy), New Glasgow; Donnie (Kaye), Fraser’s Mountain; David (Sharon), New Glasgow; sister-in- law, Marion Hoare, Stellarton; eight grandchildren; two great grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Besides his parents he was predeceased by his brother Bob.
The family will receive visitors 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Thursday in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home, New Glasgow. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 2 p.m. Friday in Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic Church with Father Bill Rankin presiding. Interment will be in the parish cemetery at a later date.
