Obituary of Hugh Calvin Campbell

NEW GLASGOW - Hugh Calvin Campbell - 85, New Glasgow, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, Tuesday, December 27, 2011 in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow. Born in Westville, he was a son of the late John Allen and Mary Ethel (Stuart) Campbell. Prior to retirement, he was a highly respected draftsman who had been employed with I. Matheson and Company, for 49 years. Hugh was a member of St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, Westville and had been active with the Boy Scouts for many years. Hugh was an avid curler in his younger years. He enjoyed camping, wood working, gardening and animals. And was a volunteer for meals on wheels for several years. Hugh took great pleasure in spending time with his family. Surviving are his wife of 63 years, Elizabeth M. “Betty” (Shanahan) Campbell; daughter, Wendy Campbell, Fraser’s Mountain; sons, Robert “Bob” (Pam), Lower Sackville; Wayne (Janice), MacLellan’s Brook; Brian (Kathy), Stellarton; Kevin (Cheryl), Fraser’s Mountain; Barry (Sandra), New Glasgow; sister, Shirley (Don) Creighton, West River; 14 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by sisters, Marion MacLean, Lena Campbell, Margaret “Margie” Reid, Mary Campbell and a sister in infancy; brothers, Allen and John E.; daughter-in-law, Cindy Campbell. There will be no visitation or funeral service at Hugh’s request. Donations may be made in Hugh’s memory to the Boy Scouts, Canadian Diabetes Association or a charity of one’s choice.
