Obituary of Robert Ordway White

NEW GLASGOW – Robert Ordway “Bob” White, 71, New Glasgow, passed away, Thursday, May 24, 2007 in Shiretown Nursing Home, Pictou. Born in Milton, Ont., he was a son of the late Marshall Talling and Adelene Mary (Woods) White. He served with the Canadian Navy from 1953 – 1957. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 34, New Glasgow, where he was employed for many years. Bob was an avid coin and stamp collector, painter and traveller. In earlier years, he was a talented bowler and dart player, for which he won many trophies. Surviving are daughters, Kathleen Sartoris (Sid Ormrod), New Glasgow; Cindy (Ron) O’Brien, Lourdes; Donna Kennedy, New Glasgow; son, Robert (Tena) White, MacLellan’s Brook; sister, Eleanor Pickett, Milton, Ont.; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his long-time friend, Jessie Hayne; sister, Dorothy Collier; brother, Richard in infancy. Cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation by request. A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home Chapel, New Glasgow with Rev. Dr. Glen Matheson officiating, followed by The Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 34,Tribute service. Family flowers only. Donations may be made in his memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia or Shiretown Nursing Home, Pictou.
