Obituary of Alice Jean Bryan

NEW GLASGOW – Alice Jean (Hutchinson) Bryan, 80, New Glasgow, passed away Wednesday, November 13, 2013 in the VG Site, QEII, Halifax. Born in Upper Musquodoboit on October 13, 1933, she was a daughter of the late Roy Alexander and Elsie Norma (Stewart) Hutchinson. Alice was a graduate of Nova Scotia Normal College (53’), Truro and Mount St. Vincent University (68’), Halifax. She was an educator in Bedford, Middle Musquodoboit, Truro and Westville. Her passion for history and current events enabled her to be an excellent history teacher. Alice was a long-time volunteer with CGIT and UNICEF. She was an avid reader, traveller and bridge player who enjoyed developing many new friendships. Alice and her husband, Herb, enjoyed many wonderful winters in Florida and summers at their cottage in Northport. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. Surviving are her loving husband, Herbert; son, Dwight (Elaine) Stewart, Truro: daughters, Olla (Sandy) Kennedy, New Glasgow; Cathy (Alan) Durdle, Halifax; Dawn Bryan (Roger Brunet), Winnipeg, Man.; Kelly (Peter) Anctil, Regina, Sask.; grandchildren; Michelle (Danny) Hennessey, Jonathan and Michael Stewart, Janessa and Simone Brunet, Christopher and Kate Anctil; siblings, Edith Andrews, Lydia Fox, Jim (Shirley) Hutchinson, Judy (Jim) Burgess; sisters-in-law, Ruth Hutchinson, Marion Gadsden and Catherine (Larry) Freeborn. Besides her parents, she was pre-deceased by her first husband Vernon Stewart; sister, Hilda Dean; brothers, George (in infancy) and Donald. The family will receive visitors 6-8 p.m. Friday, Nov 15 in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home, New Glasgow from where funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov 16 in the chapel with Rev. Dr. Glen Matheson presiding. Donations may be made in Alice’s memory to UNICEF, Canadian Cancer Society or any charity of choice. (click on link to donate online now)
