Obituary of Mary Josephine Darroch

NEW GLASGOW – Mary Josephine Darroch, 94, passed away peacefully, Sunday December 4, 2016, in the Aberdeen Hospital. Born in Frankville, she was a daughter of the late Simon Peter and Sophie (Munro) DeCoste. In earlier years, Mary was employed with the Aberdeen Hospital House Keeping Department. She enjoyed knitting and long weekend drives with her children. When her children were younger, she was very involved with the New Glasgow Ceilidh Pipe Band. Mary enjoyed a very special relationship with her granddaughters, Stacy and Krystle, who lovingly provided for her needs for many years. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, who will be missed by those she loved. Surviving are daughters, Linda MacQuarrie, New Glasgow; Nancy (Bert) Hayden, Pleasant Valley; Brenda (Donny) Vance, New Glasgow; sons, John (Sharon) Darroch, New Glasgow; Fraser (Brenda) Darroch, Toronto, Ont.; Gary Darroch; daughter-in-law, Karen Paschal, New Glasgow; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great, great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, George; daughter, Maddie; son, Dennis; grandson, Dennis Jr.; sisters, Mary Jane, Virginia, Clara, Christina, Viola, Annie, Irene, Bertha and Margaret; brothers, Simon, Joseph, George and Angus. The family will receive visitors 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 7 in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home, New Glasgow from where funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 8 in the chapel with Father Thomas MacNeil presiding.
