Obituary of James Henry McNeil
LOWER BARNEY’S RIVER – James Henry “Jim” McNeil, 70, Lower Barney’s River, passed away Wednesday, September 29, 2021, in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow, surrounded by his family.
Born in Glace Ba, he was a son of the late James Alphonsis and Marie Jeanette (Roach) MacNeil. Prior to retirement, Jim was employed with Michelin Tire. He was a member of St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church. Lismore. In earlier years, Jim was a Scouting leader and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He had served as president of the Central Highland Association for the Disabled in its beginning years and was an active member through out the years. Jim was a member of the Muscular Dystrophy Association, where he had served as the local president for several years. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. For Jim, “Life has changed; not ended!”
Surviving are his wife, Anne (Verhagen); sons, Jimmy (Carolanne), The Ponds; Johannus (Amanda), Hopewell; grandchildren, Kyle, Brianna, Tyana and Teague; sisters, Bernadette (Gary) Munsie, Westville; Joan MacNeil, Port Hawkesbury; Patsy McNeil, Westville; brother, Rick McNeil, Dartmouth; sister-in-law, Jocelyn Verhagen, Bailey’s Brook; brothers-in-law, Marinus (Dorothy) Verhagen, Linacy; John (Cathy) Verhagen, Broadway; many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by granddaughter, Courtney; sisters, Mamie, Alice, Eileen and Ann; brothers, Dennis, Maurice and Paul; father and mother-in-law, Adrian and Anna Verhagen; brothers-in-law, Peter Verhagen and Adrian Verhagen Jr.
