Obituary of George Henry Anderson

AVONDALE – George Henry Anderson, 90, Avondale, passed away peacefully, Sunday, May 11, 2014 in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow after a lengthy illness. Born in Stellarton, he was a son of the late Elliott and Laura (MacLellan) Anderson. During his younger years, Henry worked as a lumberman, farmer and trucker. Prior to retirement, he was employed in security for 10 years with St. F.X. University. He was a member of St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, Lismore. Henry valued and insisted that his seven children pursue higher education. He enjoyed telling stories and jokes, and showing off his cartoon collection drawn by his granddaughter, Kelly, which were inspired by his own ideas and stories. Henry enjoyed traveling with his wife, Catherine. They enjoyed several pilgrimages to various shrines and became faithful supporters of Brother Andre. During their various travels, throughout North America and the British Isles, they made many friends. His favourite trips were to Black Brook where he enjoyed reminiscing about by-gone days. Henry loved his family and looked forward to their many gatherings, especially the Anderson Family picnic and Christmas party. He has now passed onto his eternal reward, which has been promised to him. Surviving are his wife of 68 years, Catherine (MacGillivray); sons, Barry (the late, Margo), Maccan; David (Paulette), Plymouth; Michael (Jean), Avondale; Elliott (the late, Eileen), Antigonish; daughters, Karen (Paul) LeBlanc, Avondale; Janet (Duncan) Matheson, Fredericton, N.B.; Rosalie (George) Frazee, Avondale; 26 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; brother, Elward (Phyllis), Avondale; sister, Grace (the late Edgar) Boudreau, East Tracadie; many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by brother, Lester; sister, Mildred MacDonald; four grandchildren. The family will receive visitors 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, May 13 in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home, New Glasgow. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 14 in St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church with Father Colin MacKinnon presiding. Interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
