Obituary of Frances Christina Smith

PRIESTVILLE - Frances Christina Smith, 80, Priestville, passed away suddenly Monday, August 9, 2010 at home. Born in Antigonish, Frances was a daughter of the late Ruben Heart Engriham and Mary Christina (Gillis) Malcolm. She had worked at Glen Haven Manor, New Glasgow for several years as a personal care worker. Frances was a member of the former St. Gregory’s Roman Catholic Church, New Glasgow. She enjoyed baking, planting flowers in her garden and spending time with her family. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Surviving are daughters, Donna (John) Carter, Patsy (Dan) Atkins, Marilyn (Ritchie) English, Westville; sons, David (Leona), New Brunswick; Sterling (Rachel), Plymouth; sisters, Doris (Alfred) Freeman, Greenwood; Pat Shanahan, Westville; brother, Bill (Pauline) Malcolm, Antigonish; grandchildren, Jason and Michael Smith, Susan Carter, John Carter Jr., Jeremy Smith, Christopher and Bradley Smith, Sean Snell, Taylor and Dawson English; great-grandchildren, Brittney, Alex, Logan, Neil, Jay and Carly; many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her husband, William David “Will” Smith; sisters, Audrey and Susan; brothers, Robert, Neil, Doug and Cecil. The family will receive visitors 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, August 11th in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home, New Glasgow from where funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, August 12th in the chapel with Father Gary MacPherson presiding. Interment will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, New Glasgow. Special thank you to Karen Smith and husband, Donnie for the love and care given to Frances. Donations may be made in her memory to the Canadian Diabetes Association.
