Obituary of Ola Kathleen Plant

NEW GLASGOW – Ola Kathleen Plant, 86, Glen Haven Manor, New Glasgow, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, January 9, 2010 in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow. Born in New Glasgow on September 3, 1923, she was a daughter of the late William Otto and Catherine (Cunningham) Smith. Ola lived on Brother Street, New Glasgow until 1955 when she moved to Ottawa, became a hairdresser and was employed with Mina Elaine Salon until retirement in 1988. She moved back to Nova Scotia in 2005, briefly resided with her son and daughter-in-law until nursing home care was required. In younger years, Ola enjoyed skating on the Rideau Canal, Ottawa. She greatly enjoyed music and dancing. Ola was a loving mother, grandmother, sister and aunt. Surviving are her son, Wade (Elizabeth “Liz”) Russell, Trenton; grandson, Wade Jr. (Nancy) Russell, their children, Katelyn and Wade III, Abercrombie; granddaughter, Crystal Russell and her son, Derrick Justin “DJ”, Trenton; brother, Elliott (Odette) Smith, New Victoria; many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister, Helen; brothers, Lew, Lloyd, Claude, Arthur and Lewis. There will be no visitation by request. A family graveside service will be held in Lorne Street Cemetery, New Glasgow at a later date. Donations may be made in her memory to Glen Haven Manor, 739 East River Road, New Glasgow, NS B2H 5E9.
