Obituary of Muriel Grace Graham

NEW GLASGOW – Muriel Grace Graham, 82, New Glasgow, passed away Saturday, February 19, 2011 in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow, after a long battle with colon cancer. Born in Foxbrook, on August 24, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Mary Ann Fraser. She graduated from Westville High School and moved to Toronto where she was employed in banking. In 1951, she married her late husband, George, in Hamilton, Ont. Over the years, she and her family travelled and lived throughout North America, following her husband’s career. Muriel never missed watching General Hospital. She enjoyed listenig to a wide variety of music, doing the weekly Lexicon puzzles and the challenge of searching for “treasures” at Frenchy’s. A “second mom” too many, her home was an oasis to many weary travellers. Muriel was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend. Surviving are her daughter, Sandra (Michael) Long, New Glasgow and their daughter, Stephanie (Jason) Stewart, Eastern Passage; sons, Leigh (Ann), Red Deer, Alta.; Ricky, Saskatchewan (Kathy Betts, Pictou)and their daughter, Kaitlyn, Calgary, Alta.; Darrell (Denise) and their daughter, Emily, Beaver Bank; cousins, Gladys Hoegg, Truro; Jean Christison, Albuquerque, New Mexico; several nieces and nephews Besides her mother, she was predeceased by her husband, George Edward Graham and many aunts, uncles and cousins. There will be a celebration of Muriel’s life 2 – 5 p.m. Saturday, February 26, in the home of her daughter. A private graveside service will be held at a later date in Auburn Cemetery, Westville. Donations may be made in Muriel’s memory to the Aberdeen Palliative Care Society.
