Dear Donalda, You will remember that we went to school together many years ago. Though I did not know your son Brett since he was born after I left New Glasgow, i write to express my deepest sympathy to you and your family on the passing of a stellar person. The many heartfelt tributes are altogether expressive if the fine person he was all his life. That must make you very proud despite the extreme pain of mourning his passing which seems all too soon. Yet, he seems to have used his talents for athletics and friendship very well and made indelible marks on the lives of so many. That is an extraordinary blessing. Alas, he has now returned to the loving embrace of his Creator who sent him to us and where he will dwell throughout all eternity. May God bless you and your family abundantly dear friend.

My condolences to Brett's family, we went to school together and played Fastball together as well. Brett was always smiling, always engaging others - laughing at his own jokes, his good nature was always on display. I remember when he said hello he seemed to always put his hand on you, just his way sharing his warmth. I'm saddened by your passing, I never met a person who could catch you, but we all slow down eventually, rest well old friend.

Aunt Donalda, Kathy, Paul and family, we would like to join in expressing our heartfelt sympathy to you on the passing of Brett. Growing up in New Glasgow Brett was like a brother to me; he had such a great sense of humour (which we both shared), an infectious laugh and an amazing smile. You couldn’t even stay mad at Brett because he would do something silly or make a joke then flash you one of his million dollar smiles and it was over. That’s what I loved the most about him was his ability to make people happy/smile when in his presence, as he didn’t allow negativity to reside in his space. His passing will certainly leave an enormous void in the hearts of everyone who knew him, but his legacy of love, family and kind-heartedness will live forever. Be comforted in knowing that he now rests in the loving arms of our heavenly Father. Love & Blessings, Vivian and family

The Rhodes Family, The outpouring of messages being sent to you shows the impact Brett has had on many lives in his short 54 years of life. He was truly a gifted and unique athlete but even a better person in how he treated everyone whom he crossed paths with from a very early age. A genuine MVP (Most Valuable Person) and one could not ask for a better teammate than Brett. He just seemed to have a knack to always come through and be that clutch guy on any team and in any sport he played. May you all take solace in knowing how much your son, father and grandfather was loved by everyone who knew him! Blessings to all of the family. Ross MacIsaac

Brett, it was an absolute honour to be your classmate, teammate and most of all your friend. You were, without a doubt, always the best athlete on all our hockey and baseball teams but more importantly such a great leader offering positive encouragement when we struggled. We never could have won our provincial hockey championships without you. Thank you so much the hitting tips you gave me! As a baseball pitcher, I was so grateful you were on my team and I never had to face you as I knew I would be in deep trouble. Rest in peace my friend and thank you so much for our younger years together!

Remembered we all sang ‘Car Wash’ on the bus to the track meet and were selected the friendliest team of the country. My heartfelt sympathy and prayers of strength to his family.

My sincere condolences to Bretts family. Brett and I went to school together and were side by side on the track team together, we had a lot of fun at the track meets with all the fellows. Brett and I went to the Provincials and won that year and had the chance to go to the Nationals in Ottawa but I was unable to go due to the money situation but Brett did go and came back a winner with a possible spot I believe for the Olympics , I was so proud of him and being part of the team. We were in the Nova Scotia Highlands together for 4 years, until I moved away . Brett was a great guy, always supportive and always there when needed.

My heart is sadden to read that our friend, brother, son and uncle, has passed away at such a young age. Brett was a bigger then life star in is Teen days! He was a giant in sports and track and field. Brett was a wonderful soul, a true gentleman and a joy to be around. The last time I seen him he was not the young man I knew! His soul was in pain and he seem lost. I talk to him to see if he remembered who I was, and he laugh and called me Hoss. Even though our meeting was short, I could see my old friend in his eyes. My heart is saddened to hear of his passing, but I know Brett is in Gods healing hands, and is spirit will rise again! I pray for Kathy and the family that they work together and love each other and remember what a great man he was. His battle is over, his struggle done, his heart is heal, and a new life has begun. In the Kingdom of Heaven there is no alone, for all of his friends from the past are welcoming him home. God Bless the Rhode family

Mother Donalda, Sis. Kathy and family, I extend my deepest condolences to you all. I remember the Rhodes family and my many visits with Mother Donalda when I was the pastor at Second Baptist, New Glasgow. These times in which we live are extremely challenging. Loved ones passing into eternity amidst this pandemic and not being able to gather in corporate grieving and comfort may be difficult, but know that God is everywhere present even when we cannot be. Jesus said, “Blessed are all who mourn, for they will be comforted.” May it comfort you to know that Brett received Christ as his Savior and according to our faith, Brett now rests in peace with the Lord.

I can remember sitting in Donelda’s kitchen and watching him laugh and carry on with his mother and sister, Kathy. His giggle made you giggle with him and for some reason, I can still hear him in my memories. Now he is giggling with his family and friends who have passed on. Rest In Peace Brett.
