Obituary of Walter Aiken Reginald Burns
SALT SPRINGS – Walter Aiken Reginald Burns, 86, Cedarstone Enhanced Care, Truro, formerly of Salt Springs, passed away Monday, June 18, 2018 in Cedarstone.
Born in River Philip, he was the son of the late John Alexander and Grace Winnifred (Burns) Burns. He was a member of St. Luke’s United Church, Salt Springs. Prior to retirement, Walter was employed with Chignecto-Central Regional School Board as a school bus driver. Previously he was self-employed as a contractor/carpenter. Walter served with the North Nova Scotia Highlanders from 1952-1963, retiring with the rank of Staff Sergeant. He was “jack of all trades and master of many”. Walter greatly enjoyed singing and sang in numerous choirs for many years. He was the last surviving member of his family.
Surviving are children, John (Shari) Burns, Millsville and their sons, Chris (Chevon), Tim (Victoria), Sandy (Heather) and Nick (Sarah); Patricia (Brett) Carrigan, Salt Springs, their sons, John (Chrissy), Nathan (Trudy) and Steven (Emily); Robert (Claudia), Millsville, their children, Dan (Angela) and Haley; great-grandchildren, Lucas, Ashton, Cooper, Eric, Scarlett, Brandon, Lucas, Sam, Keigan, Aidan, Everett, Mylie, Chloe, Frankie and Layla; many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife of 57 years, Edith (Sharpe); grandson, Aaron Burns; siblings, Malcolm, Phyllis, Mitchell, Milford, Winnie, Bertie and Joe Lavers; Avard Burns.
The family will receive visitors 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, June 19 in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home, New Glasgow. Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 20 in St. Luke’s United Church, Salt Springs with Rev. Jim Webber-Cook presiding. Interment will be in Gladstone Cemetery, Four Mile Brook.
