Obituary of Frederick William Arbuckle
NEW GLASGOW – Frederick William “Fred” Arbuckle, 84, New Glasgow, passed away Sunday, March 13, 2016 at home.
Born in Lourdes, he was a son of the late Alfred James and Wilma Margaret (Fisher) Arbuckle. Raised in Ponds, Pictou Co., until the age of 11, Fred moved with his family to New Glasgow where he began training with his father and Uncle John to become a carpenter. Spending his entire career in construction, he worked in Boston, Mass., St. Catharines, Ont. and throughout Atlantic Canada. He was a master carpenter – a builder of homes, schools, churches, commercial buildings and other structures. Prior to retirement in 1997, he was employed with Sobeys as a construction project manager. Fred met his late wife, Margaret, during a trip home on vacation while living in Ontario. They were married in 1958, living in Stellarton, New Glasgow, Scotsburn and finally returning to New Glasgow. Fred was most proud of his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren whom he dearly loved. He is now in the safe embrace of his Lord, reunited with his wife, Margaret. A humble, gentle man, Fred’s faith in Christ was demonstrated through his integrity and compassion to others; an enduring legacy to be cherished by his family and friends.
Surviving are daughter, Robin (Jim) MacGregor, Lower Sackville; sons, Ken (Melody), Niagara Region, Ont.; Darryl (Heather), MacLellan’s Brook; grandchildren, Chelsea, Jared (Julia), Geoffrey, Braydon and Jordan; great-grandchildren, Eli and Eden; brother, Ralph, Greenhill; sister-in-law, Kristine (Terry) Jones, Enfield; several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his wife of 48 years, Margaret; sisters, June Calkins and Pauline Brooks; sister-in-law, Winnie Arbuckle; brothers-in-law, Dave Calkins and Bill Brooks.
The family will receive visitors 6-8 p.m. Tuesday March 15th in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home, New Glasgow from where funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday March 16th in the chapel with Pastor Alan Klein officiating. Interment will be in Murray’s Point Cemetery, Lower Barney’s River.
