Obituary of Douglas Ralph Dwyer

WESTVILLE – Douglas Ralph "Doug" Dwyer, 67, Westville Road, passed away Saturday, July 30, 2016 in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow, surrounded by his family. Born in New Glasgow, he was a son of the late Carl and Nora (Dwyer) Spears. Doug was a butcher and was employed for a number of years with IGA, Whitby, Ont., from where he retired. He was a free spirit who enjoyed spending time with his family, watching his favorite team, the Blue Jays, and having a beer. Surviving are his wife, Marie (Joyce); son, Jeff (Bonnie) Dwyer, Toronto, Ont.; daughter, Jen (Mike) Gregory, Truro; Jannet Dwyer, Cobourg, Ont.; Jacqueline Dwyer, Oshawa, Ont.; stepson, Mike (Cheryl), Sarnia, Ont.; stepdaughter, Laura (Dale) Facey, Woodburn Road; 12 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; sister, Charmaine (Donnie) Snell, Mount William; brother, Carl (Bea) Spears, Westville; numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brothers, Greg, Jimmy and Norman; maternal grandparents, Matt and Maude Dwyer, whom he lived with in his earlier years. In keeping with Doug’s wishes, a graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, August 3 in Our Lady of Lourdes Cemetery, Stellarton with Father Barrett Clare-Johnson presiding. No flowers by request. Donations may be made in Doug’s memory to the Aberdeen Palliative Care Society or any charity of choice.
