Obituary of John James Fraser
MERIGOMISH – John James “Jimmy” Fraser, 86, Merigomish, passed away peacefully, Sunday, September 30, 2007 at home.
Born in Thorburn, he was a son of the late Duncan W. H. and Ella Grant (Foote) Fraser. He had been employed in forestry and with the former Hawker Siddeley, Trenton. Jimmy created and operated the family farm, along with his late wife, Jean, where they were noted for their produce, especially turnips. He was a member of St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church, Merigomish. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather.
Surviving are daughters, Laura (Charles) Roy, Saskatoon, Sask.; Cathy (David) Turcotte, Cape Sable Island; Eleanor Fraser, Halifax; Elizabeth Spears, Truro; son, John (Cindy) Fraser, Merigomish; grandchildren, Jason (Carla) and Scott Roy; Mary, Cory, Bailey and Owen Fraser; numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his wife of 57 years, Jean Grant Fraser, in January; grandson, Tristan William Fraser in infancy; sisters, Mary Catherine MacLean and Elizabeth Margaret Irene “Betty” Crosby.
Visitation will be 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Tuesday in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home, New Glasgow. Funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday in St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church with Mrs. Jessie Johnson officiating. Interment will be in Riverview Cemetery, Merigomish.
