Obituary of Carl Douglas Spears
NEW GLASGOW – Carl Douglas Spears, 77, New Glasgow, formerly of Greenhill, passed away on Tuesday, March 10, 2009.
Born in Halifax, he was a son of the late Lester Joseph and Annie Catherine (Mann) Spears. He moved to Pictou County in 1952 and was employed in various capacities until 1961 when he operated the former Fina Service Station on North Provost Street, New Glasgow and formed the trucking firm of Carl D. Spears Transfer and Storage, transferring goods all across Canada. Upon sale of the businesses he was a sales representative for Bowman Products of USA, serving Eastern Nova Scotia and Cape Breton Island. He was a charter member and past president of the Pictou County Antique Car Club.
Surviving are his daughter, Arlene, New Glasgow; sons, Wayne, New Glasgow; Lester (Chasity), Truro; Steven, New Glasgow; grandchildren, Leslie, Sierra, Cameron and Lilliawna; former wives, Kathleen M. (Burge), New Glasgow and Theresa A. (Chalker), Pictou; a nieces and two nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Donald.
The family will receive visitors 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Friday, March 12th in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home, New Glasgow from where funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, March 13th with Rev. Helen Christie officiating.
