Obituary of Karen Ann Mombourquette

NEW GLASGOW – Karen Ann Mombourquette, 68, Valley View Villa, Stellarton, formerly of New Glasgow, passed away peacefully, Friday, September 13, 2019 in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow, surrounded by her family. Born in New Glasgow, she was a daughter of the late David M. and Dorothy A. (Martin) Neima. Karen was a well-known realtor in the area for over 30 years, having received her Broker license in 1989. She owned/operated Country Home Realty (Century 21) for many years. Following, she was employed with Coldwell Banker and Blinkhorn Realty until retirement due to ill health in 2015. Karen possessed a true entrepreneurial spirit, having operated the former “Mums the word” clothing store in New Glasgow and Settler’s Pub, Pictou. Karen was passionate about her children’s education, from serving in Home and School to vice chair of the Chignecto Regional School Board, as well as many other organizations. She enjoyed hunting, fishing and weekend travels with her husband, Frank. Karen and the “golden girls” spent many hours playing cards and socializing. She cherished time spent with family, especially her grandchildren. Karen possessed an enduring faith in her Lord and now enjoys the promise made to her in baptism. She leaves a legacy of strength, compassion and enduring love of family. Surviving are her husband, Frank; daughters, Amy Sutherland (Sean MacDonald), MacLellan’s Brook; Kate Sutherland, Truro; sons, Jason Sutherland (Tara Shanks), Halifax; Jeremy Sutherland, New Glasgow; Jody (Carol) Sutherland, Bowmanville, Ont.; Greg Mombourquette and Jordan (Amber) Mombourquette, Sydney Mines; grandchildren, Eli, Tyler, Logan, Avery, Noah, Cole, Taylor, Christian, Oliva, Courtney, Chloe, Riley, Lily, Cyril, Brooklyn, Landon and Hudson; great grandson, Brody; sister, Annette Gonzalez, Tampa, Florida; numerous nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by sisters, Nancy and Dorothy; brothers, Bobby in infancy, Ron David and Oren Joseph. A private graveside service will be held with Father Thomas MacNeil presiding. Donations may be made in Karen’s memory to QEII Health Sciences Centre Foundation, Neuroscience Program.
