Obituary of Walter Dan MacDonald

WESTVILLE ROAD – Walter Dan MacDonald, 92, Valley View Villa, Riverton, formerly of Westville Road, passed away peacefully, Sunday, June 24, 2018 in the Villa. Born in Stellarton, he was a son of the late John Dan and Mary Elsie (DeYoung) MacDonald. Prior to retiring in 1989, he was a welder at the former Trenton Works for 46 years. Dan had been an active member of Local 1231 United Steel Workers of America, holding various executive positions. He was an avid Toronto Blue Jay and Maple Leaf fan. Dan was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend. Surviving are his wife of 67 years, Irene (Ormrod), Thorburn; daughters, Patricia “Pat” (Bill “Scottie”) Forsythe, Thorburn; Marilyn (Tom) Mattie, Monastery; sons, Daniel “Dan” (Marie), Linacy; Kenneth, Calgary, Alta.; Stephen (Kirsten), Dartmouth; grandchildren, Sherri (Roy) O’Hara, Mark (Lindsay) Forsythe, Michael (Alissa) and Brian (Chelsey) Mattie; Mark, Christopher, Sara, Megan, Ian, Liam MacDonald; six great-grandchildren, Brett, Cade, Colin, Aria, Stefan, Chael; sisters, Isabel (Jack) Hammond, Laggan; Bertha Ryan, Hamilton, Ont.; brothers, Spurgeon “Spurge”, Green’s Point; Collie (Mary Bell), Little Harbour; Tom (Louise), Pictou Landing; sister-in-law, Peggy, Linacy; many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by sisters, Annie Jane, Lizzie, Mary, Mabel, Loretta; brothers, William, Joseph, Angus; brothers-in-law, James, Tom. The family will receive visitors 10 -10:50 a.m. Wednesday, June 27, 2018 in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home Chapel, New Glasgow from where funeral service will be held 11 a.m. with Rev.
