TRENTON – Charles Alvin Coady, 75, Trenton, passed away Thursday, December 15, 2011, surrounded by family, in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow after a brief illness. Born in New Glasgow, he was the youngest son of the late Frederick Michael and Mary Eleanor (Delorey) Coady, formerly of Abercrombie. He was a member of Christ the King Roman Catholic Church, Trenton. Alvin enlisted in the Canadian Army in 1953, serving with the RCR Airborne, RCEME and as a UN Peace Keeper in the Middle East, retiring in 1973 with the rank of Master Corporal. Returning to Pictou County, he became employed as a supervisor with Trenton Works in 1975, retiring in 1991. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 29, Trenton and L.A.D. Association, Atlantic. Alvin enjoyed bowling with the Main Street and Men’s Bowling Leagues, and playing darts at the legion. He was an avid fisherman, gardener and camper, having spent 25 summers at Harbour Light Campground, Pictou. Music was large part of Alvin’s life; he was a well known and skilled guitar player. He will be remembered for his wonderful sense of humour, his lively laugh and, his love of life and family. Surviving are his wife of 52 years, Rita (Long); daughters, Doreen (Glenn) Shadbolt, Little Harbour; Debra Coady, Halifax; brothers, George (Pearl) Coady, Abercrombie; Colin “Duke” Coady, Stillwater; sisters-in-law, Lillian Coady, Stellarton; Audrey Campbell, Kay Swanwick, Beverly (Steve) Hendsbee, Trenton; Marie Long, Toronto, Ont.; numerous nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by siblings, Jack, Kathleen “Kay” Gratto, Henry and Ralph “Bud”. The family will receive visitors 7-9 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 17th and, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 18th in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home, New Glasgow. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 19th in Christ the King Roman Catholic Church with Father Gary MacPherson presiding. Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 29, Tribute service will be held 6:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 18th in the funeral home. Family flowers only.
