Obituary of Evelyn Ada Murdock
THE PONDS – Evelyn Ada Murdock, 80, The Ponds, passed away Monday, June 30, 2014 in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow, surrounded by her family.
Born in Lakedale, Guysborough Co., she was a daughter of the late Ernest Lavender Orman and Evelyn Annie (Nelson) Jordan. Evelyn was the matriarch of the Murdock household. She and Arthur enjoyed a loving marriage, each supporting one another as they raised six girls. Evelyn worked with Arthur helping to maintain his fishing gear, mending salmon and mackerel nets, and making headings for lobster traps. She was also employed with Lismore Sea Foods for 10 years. She was a member of St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church, Merigomish. She enjoyed family gatherings, attending dances with Arthur, cooking, baking, feeding birds, knitting and sewing. Her canine companion, Katie was always by her side. Evelyn was “mama”, “mom”, “gramie”, “gramie gg” to her family, who loved her dearly.
Surviving are her daughters, Lorraine (Benson) Wright, The Ponds; Debbie (Billy) MacKay, Stellarton; Sandra (Mike) Pitts, The Ponds; Colleen (Ronnie) Olding, Merigomish; Darlene (Paul) Hamilton, Lower Barney’s River; Marlene (Robert) Fraser, The Ponds; grandchildren, Shawn, Lisa, Steven, Amanda, Tammy, Jody, Pam, Wendy, Jacqueline, Derek, Robbie, Elisha, Ben, Nathan and Nicky; 25 great-grandchildren; sisters, Mary Duggan, Riverton; Viola (Kenny) Richards, Toronto, Ont.; sister-in-laws, Ora Jordan, The Ponds; Jean Jordan, Beamsville, Ont.; numerous nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Arthur Frederick Murdock; great-grandson, Joshua; brothers, George, Walter, Henry and Orman; half-sister, Connie (Norman) Campbell; half-brothers, John and Bill McCaul.
The family will receive visitors 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday, July 3 in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home, New Glasgow. Funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Friday, July 4 in St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church, Merigomish with Rev. Bonnie Wynn officiating. Interment will be in Murray’s Point Cemetery, Lower Barney’s River.
