Obituary of Robert Thomas Dunbar

NEW GLASGOW – Robert Thomas “Bob” Dunbar, 80, New Glasgow, formerly of MacLellan’s Brook, passed away peacefully, Friday, July 29, 2022, in the Aberdeen Hospital, Palliative Care Unit, New Glasgow.

Born in New Glasgow, he was the son of the late Robert Burns and Cora Helen (MacKenzie) Dunbar. Bob enjoyed a long and successful career as a car salesman. He began his career in the late 1970’s with George “Cowboy” Hughes, Alma, where he purchased the business and began Dunbar Auto Sales. Working in car sales was both a job and friendship, after closing his own business, he enjoyed working with Gary Burke at Gary Burke Auto Sales, Wayne MacLellan at MacLellan Motors and Ale MacDonald at R. & J. Auto and Westway Pontiac and, Donnie MacLellan at Glasgow Mercury.  Bob’s last 25 years in car sales were spent with Tim Wilson, Gary, and Lillian Shaw at Central Nova Motors. He was most grateful for the many wonderful people he was blessed to have as colleagues throughout the years. Bob was an avid New York Yankee’s and Montreal Canadiens fan. In earlier years, Bob played baseball and hockey throughout the county and province. He was a friendly, entertaining conversationalist, who enjoyed listening to people’s stories and sharing life experiences. Bob was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend.

Surviving are his sons, Brad (Susan) Dunbar, New Glasgow; Mark (Brenda) Dunbar, Newport; grandchildren, Cassidy, Carson (Shaila), Ryan and Chloe; several nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife of 53 years, Lillian “Lollie” (Beck).

The family will receive visitors 2-4 p.m. Monday, August 1 in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home, New Glasgow. A private graveside service will be held with Rev. Charles McPherson officiating.
