Obituary of Norma Louise Storey

NEW GLASGOW – Norma Louise Storey, 93, Glen Haven Manor, New Glasgow, formerly of New Glasgow, passed away peacefully, Sunday, August 14, 2022, in the Manor.

Born in North Sydney, she was a daughter of the late Harry Witherstone and Greta Isabel (Moffatt) Kelly. After completing high school Norma attended Mount Allison University graduating with a degree in Home Economics. She began her teaching career in New Waterford, later, New Glasgow and at Stellarton High School from where she retired. Norma loved teaching she strongly believed a good education was the key to success no matter what career path you chose to follow. She took a special interest in all her students and did her best to help them develop the life skills they would need after they completed school. Norma was proud of her children and her grand children and their spouses for their career successes, however she had as special bond with her daughter Patricia a retired teacher and with granddaughter Shannon a school principal, and her granddaughter in law Brianna a vice principal both in Calgary.

After retiring Norma spent many happy years with her husband, Kent at the cottage on Caribou Island where they enjoyed spending time in the garden, on the paddle boat, and being with Nickie, the beagle. As they grew older and the winters seemed colder, they sold the cottage and became snowbirds spending their winters in the warm sun of Winter Haven, Florida until Kent’s declining health forced them to remain home.

Norma was an adherent of Trinity United Church since moving to New Glasgow in 1964. She loved her Lord and took every opportunity share this love. Norma served as a Sunday school teacher, youth leader, CGIT leader, and was active in couples ministry. She was involved in the church outreach programs and she sang in the church choir until she moved into Glen Haven in 2018. Norma wanted everyone to hear the Good News and to reap its rewards.

Surviving are her daughter, Patricia Nicholson (George), Hilden; son, Blake (Dianne) Storey, Waterside; grandchildren, Andrew (Brianna) Storey, Shannon (Doug) Heffer, Jeffery Nicholson, Jamie (Cheryl) Nicholson and Jody Nicholson; great-grandchildren, Nate and Michael Heffer, Erica and Ivan Storey, Taylor and Lennox Nicholson; sister, Aileen Matheson, Islington, Ont.; several nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Owen Kent Storey; brothers, Frank and Harrison Kelly; sister-in-law, Ruth Kelly; brother-in-law, Crawford Matheson.
