Obituary of Edna Mary Stewart

PINE TREE – Edna Mary Stewart, 73, passed away Tuesday, January 25, 2023, in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow, surrounded by the love of her family.

Born in New Glasgow, she was a daughter of the late Lesley Charles and Jean Ann (Robson) Murray.  Edna was a member of Sutherland’s River Presbyterian Church.  In earlier years, she was employed with the former Coffee Pot and McRae’s Restaurant, New Glasgow. Edna was also employed at the former Lou’s Place and Smitty’s Restaurants, New Glasgow.  She looked forward to her summers working with her friends at the Saltwater Cafe in Pictou. Edna enjoyed baking, cooking, and going to Bingo and cherished time spent with her family. She spent many hours with her siblings, especially, playing cards. 

Surviving are her son, Greg Stewart, Pine Tree; sister, Audrey Hodder, New Glasgow; brothers, Ernie (Anita) Murray, Pine Tree; John (Frances) Murray, Pine Tree; sisters-in-law, Pearl Hayden (Mel Oliver), New Glasgow; Donalda Bezanson, Westville; Donelda Stewart, Stellarton;  brothers-in-law, Doug (Eileen) Stewart, New Glasgow; Steven Stewart, Trenton; Joe Pettipas, Hamilton, Ont.; numerous nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Clarence Vincent Stewart;  son, Robbie Vincent Stewart; sister, Hazel Pettipas; sister, Effie in infancy; brother, Charles "Charlie" Murray; sisters-in-law, Juilie Murray; Ann Stewart; brothers-in-law, Henry Stewart, Herbert Hodder, Bert Hayden, Don Bezanson and Morris Stewart.

The family will receive visitors 1 – 1:50 p.m. Monday, January 30 in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home, New Glasgow from where funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. with Rev. Dr. Glen Matheson officiating. Interment will be in Church Brook Cemetery, Little Harbour at a later date.
