Obituary of Helen Theresa Milne

Helen Theresa Milne, 97, Woodburn, passed away Saturday, February 4, 2023, at home.

Born in Mount Stewart, P.E.I., she was the daughter of the late Patrick Stanislas and Mary Ann (Hughes) Kelly. Helen grew up in a large family in Prince Edward Island, helping around the family farm with her brothers and sisters. As a teenager, she learned how to disassemble and re-assemble a tractor when she trained as a farmette to assist the War effort.  Helen met her husband, John in Charlottetown when working in a restaurant when she had knocked over serving trays, and he came to her rescue. When her husband was stationed in Europe, she worked in the base grocery store. She was a member of the former St. Andrew’s Roman Catholic Church, Egerton and a member of St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, New Glasgow. Helen had a long and enjoyable life and leaves a rich legacy to her family, including her fierce independence.  She was dearly loved by her family, including her numerous nieces and nephews in Prince Edward Island, Alberta and Nova Scotia.

Surviving are her sons, Eric (Henrica), England; Barry (Tanya), Halifax; daughter-in-law, Margaret Milne, Woodburn; grandchildren, Rachael (Ben), Saskia (Sam), Andrew, Melissa (Ron), Matthew (Leona), Luke and Ella; great-grandchildren, Emmett, Ruben, Nat, Alexandra, James and Helena; sisters, Ruth Heron and Eileen Larkin Hughes, Charlottetown, P.E.I.; numerous nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, John Reid Milne; son, Jamie Milne; sisters, Margaret Hughes and Rita Power; brothers, Pete, Reg, Charlie, Frank, Rollie, Lornie and Howard.
