Obituary of Elizabeth Mae Stroud

With broken hearts we announce the passing of Elizabeth Mae Stroud, 67 of Pictou Landing on Friday, July 21, 2023. She passed peacefully surrounded by the love of her family.

Born in New Glasgow, she was the daughter of the late Bernard Anthony “Bun” and Hazel Jean (Cress) MacDonald of Pictou Landing.

Surviving are her husband of almost 46 years, Freeman Stroud; best friend and daughter, Erin Stroud (Kevin Gallant), Halifax; her beloved grandson, her little sweetie, Reynold Gallant; sister and best friend Heather (Don) Dobson, New Glasgow; brother, Paul (Luanna) MacDonald, Alton., several nieces, nephews and her special friend Gloria Hooper. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by sisters, Marilyn Mitchell and Darlene MacMillian.

Liz’s greatest joy was her family. She was the most kind, selfless and thoughtful wife, mom, nannie, sister, and friend.  Reynold will always remember her jam and sugar cookies, his favorites.  Reynold enjoyed the many stories read to him by his Nannie and the songs they sung together. Liz was a lifelong resident of the community of Pictou Landing where she enjoyed overlooking the beautiful harbour. She loved the summers when she could work on her flower gardens with Erin & Freeman.  Liz loved to celebrate and decorate for holidays with Freeman’s help. They made sure the Halloween decorations were out, Easter eggs were hid and Christmas lights were lit.  She cherished her golden retrievers, Penny, Brandy, Ruby, Abby and Maddie.   Liz was an awesome baker.  Erin’s many friends can attest to all the cupcakes and scotch cookies that she baked for them over the years. She will be truly missed by all who loved her.

Liz’s family would like to thank the health care teams in New Glasgow and Halifax over the years that took such great care of her.  We would especially like to thank Dr. Aulayne Jeans who provided such wonderful care and compassion.

A celebration of life for Liz will be held privately. Internment will be in the Christ the King cemetery with her parents.

Donations in memory can be made to Liz’s niece Megan MacDonald’s GoFundMe. (Please click on underlined to donate.)

Breathe easy now Liz.  We will always remember you with love.

Lovingly submitted by family.
