Obituary of Thomas Robert Parker
Thomas Robert “Bob” Parker, KC, 89, New Glasgow, passed away peacefully, Wednesday July 26, 2023, in the Aberdeen Hospital, Palliative Care Unit, New Glasgow.
Born in New Waterford, he was a son of the late William Alexander and Willena Ann (O’Connor) Parker. Bob attended and graduated from Dalhousie Law School in 1959. He moved to New Glasgow in 1966 and worked in private practice until 1973 when he was appointed Crown Prosecutor. In 1976, he was appointed Queen’s Counsel and served in this capacity until retirement in 1994. The great outdoors was Bob’s favorite place to be - canoeing, camping and fishing were activities he enjoyed from an early age onward. In later years, he enjoyed sailing and gardening. Every summer, he couldn’t wait to enjoy cottage life at Black Point. He enjoyed telling people his stories and there was never such a thing as a “short conversation” with Bob Parker. He also enjoyed volunteering with the Pictou County Prostate Cancer Support Group and being one of the “wharf rats” helping the Women Alike Abreast a River Dragon Boat Team.
He is survived by loving daughters, Cathy (Paul) Sampson, Halifax; Beth Parker, Bedford; grandchildren, Nicholas, Jacob, and Sophie; sister Anne Miller, Toronto, Ont.; numerous nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Phyllis June (Abell) Parker; sister Blanche, brothers Bill and David.
A private funeral service will be held later.
The family would like to genuinely thank the Aberdeen Hospital Palliative Care Team and Glen Haven Manor staff for their care and compassion.
Donations may be made in memory of Bob to the Pictou County Prostate Cancer Support Association or The Salvation Army.
