Obituary of Helen Kathleen MacLeod

Helen Kathleen MacLeod, 96, Churchville, passed away Wednesday, August 16, 2023, in the Sutherland Harris Memorial Hospital, Pictou, surrounded by the love of her family.

Born in Guernsey Cove, P.E.I, on April 30, 1927, she was a daughter of the late Robert Warren and Viola Blanche (MacKay) Glover. Prior to retirement she was employed as office manager with the late Dr. Allan MacKay, New Glasgow Veterinary Clinic, for over 40 years. Helen was a member of Springville Presbyterian Church and had served with the Ladies Aid. She was a member of the Women’s Institute, Churchville and had volunteered with The Shepherds Lunchroom, New Glasgow.  Helen enjoyed knitting and had knitted “Baby Beanies” for newborn infants for many years.

Surviving are her daughter, Debbie (Peter) Parsons, Lower Sackville; son, Dale (Marie) MacLeod, Green Hill; granddaughters, Rachel MacLeod, Jena (Richard) Parsons, Heather Parsons (Brad Watt); grandson, Jeffery (Erica) MacLeod; great-granddaughter, Sophie Watt; great-grandsons, Jonah and Cohen Parsons; sisters, Shirley Campbell, Markham, Ont.; Grace (Ray) Robinson, Thorold, Ont.; Marion (Amon) Acorn, Perth, Ont.; brother, Herbert Glover, Guernsey Cove, P.E.I.; sisters-in-law, Olga MacLeod, Dartmouth; Hester Glover, Abney, P.E.I.; numerous nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her beloved husband of 70 years, John Evans MacLeod; son, Gordon D. MacLeod; daughter-in-law, Andrea MacLeod; sister, Edna MacNeil; brothers, William “Howard”, Lowell, and Rupert; sisters-in-law, Lavinia MacLeod, Kay Glover, June Glover, and Midge Glover; brothers-in-law, Gerald MacNeil, Donald Campbell, and Ernest MacLeod.

Funeral service will be held 11 am. Monday, August 21, P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home Chapel, New Glasgow with Rev. Dr. Glen Matheson officiating. Interment will be in Springville Cemetery. Reception to follow in the Springville Community Hall.

Donations may be made in Helen’s memory to the Pictou County VON or Hope for Wildlife.
